A sense of restlessness had settled deep within her. The air in her apartment felt heavy, the walls closing in. She went to the window, the city lights blurred. She’d spent the last few hours trying to read but each word remained elusive.

She kept checking her phone, the screen offering nothing but a mocking display of emptiness. It wasn't the distance that terrified her; it was the uncertainty, the fear of change.

She started pacing, the familiar confines of her apartment suddenly a prison. She knew she needed to leave, to find something, anything, to distract herself from the overwhelming feelings. She grabbed her keys and quickly left.
